报告题目:The Chemistry of Fluorinated Polymers

报告内容简介:

This seminar will introduce the free radical synthesis of fluorinated macromolecules, including a discussion of controlled radical polymerization technologies for preparation of well-defined block and star copolymers. The properties of fluoropolymers will also be discussed, specifically the strong tendency of fluoropolymers to undergo phase separation, and the low surface energy of fluorinated materials. Several specific applications will be described to illustrate these properties. Fluoropolymers have for many years been exploited as low-fouling polymers in applications such as marine coatings and in medical devices. I shall discuss the effect of polymer composition and sequence distribution on the polymer surface free energy. Secondly, I will introduce the use of fluorinated segments to decorate the surface of materials with functional groups, in this case for advanced lithography applications. Finally, I will discuss the use of fluorinated block copolymers as solid polymer electrolytes, and the importance of morphology and surface energy on battery performance.

报告人简介(中文):Andrew Whittaker is a professor of physical chemistry with broad experience in polymer synthesis, characterization and the physical chemistry of polymers. He is currently President of the Pacific Polymer Federation and is past Chair of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Polymer Division. He has received numerous awards including in 2014 the Paul J. Flory International Polymer Research Prize and in 2015 the Chinese Academy of Sciences Presidents International Fellowship. He has published over 370 scientific papers with >11,600 citations, has an h-index of 54 and i-10 index of 257.
